Using Sensodrive’s success story as a model for potential start-ups

Norbert Sporer to impart start-up expertise at the German Space Center (DLR) seminar, "Bootstrapping: How can I grow my business on my own?"

The history of Sensodrive began in 2001 with the vision of Norbert Sporer. The head of DLR Lightweight Robot Development wanted to make space robotics suitable for industrial use.

In 2003, he founded the company Sensodrive as a spin-off from the DLR with himself as majority shareholder – as a self-financed start-up without investors.

Now in 2022, Sensodrive is one of the world's leading companies in the fields of torque sensors, sensitive robotic drives and force feedback products for high-end simulators.

To help make the expertise gained from this success story accessible to future DLR start-ups, Sensodrive Managing Director Norbert Sporer will speak at the next DLR start-up seminar. The event, titled "Bootstrapping: How can I grow my business on my own?" will take place on 3 November 2022 in Oberpfaffenhofen and is aimed at all DLR researchers who are considering creating a spin-off.

In his presentation, Norbert Sporer will go over the history of Sensodrive and discuss in detail how he structured the founding and financing of the company – in particular how it was possible to cover all costs in the first few years even without investors, and how it later grew so successfully. He will go into detail about all the challenges and will be available to answer any questions afterwards for the benefit of all the attending DLR researchers.
